What If The World Isn’t Getting Worse?
I have heard so many Christians bemoaning the state of the world, dreaming for the “good old days” when people were righteous. But maybe the world isn’t getting worse. Instead, perhaps technology is allowing us to witness more and more of what has been happening all along. After all, you can always see the roaches better when the lights come on.
Maybe the world isn’t getting worse, but instead our generation is being offered a new opportunity: to do something about the wrongs of the world. Maybe it’s not just an opportunity, but a responsibility to make a change.
In this age of technology, with social media and live video feeds, we have three choices in the face of so much abuse, corruption, and pain:
For one, we can close our eyes in denial and lie to ourselves and others saying, “This can’t be true. I will not believe”.
Our second option is to circle the wagons in a doomsday approach, warning others that there is no hope of change, so why bother trying.
Or, we can look at the face of the darkness and allow ourselves to feel. We can listen and allow ourselves to be moved. We can believe and allow ourselves to see.
And then we can change.
We can change in true and meaningful ways. We can change ourselves, and through it, we can bring change to our world.
